St. Patrick's Festival 2024 Highlights
Join us as we take a look back at just some of the highlights of St. Patrick's Festival 2024.
☘️ ☘️ ☘️
On the 16th and 17th of March we danced, sang, ate, drank, played and got up to a whole load of devilment in a celebration of the very best in Irish music, dancing, craic, conversation, workshops, street theatre, circus, food and drink and so much more in St. Patrick’s Festival Quarter at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks. We listened to stunning artists in our Tigín, danced a Céilí in the Halla Mór, sampled the finest artisan Irish food in our brand new Bia Mall space, and indulged in a whole load of spraoi agus súgradh.
On the 17 March, we brought joy to the streets of Dublin as we welcomed half a million people to the global centre of all things Irish - the iconic National St Patrick’s Day Parade.
Spectacular pageants, stunning costumes, raucous revelry, epic marching bands from all around the world, and craic go leor! We worked once again with Kia on one of the biggest WOW! moments of the Parade, we cheered on the Irish Olympics Team sponsored by PTSB, and we sang Happy Birthday to another Irish icon, Mr Tayto, who is 70 years young. We celebrated the power of Dublin’s North East Inner City with Dublin City Council and the North East Inner City Initiative as part of our biggest Community Pageant yet. We welcomed communities from all across Dublin and Ireland, bringing their own unique spark to our National Day.
This year we put on our Greenest St. Patrick’s Festival ever, putting sustainability at the core of everything we do. From new initiatives in production and audience experience all the way through to installations in Festival Quarter, St. Patrick’s Festival, in collaboration with our wonderful partners, showed the very, very many shades of green that make up this unique Festival.
For the first time ever we created a Relaxed Parade Space sponsored by Dublin City Council and supported by Lord Mayor Daithí De Róiste, welcoming neurodivergent people and their families in to a space created to support and facilitate their access and enjoyment of the Parade, making 2024 our most accessible Festival to date. Thank you to our partners AsIAm and Neurodiversity Ireland, and to the team who helped us to put the Relaxed Parade Space together. Thank you especially to all of the families who hopped aboard our maiden voyage in this space.
All across Dublin locals and visitors alike participated in events throughout the Festival as part of our One City Programme - an incredible, eclectic programme of events taking in everything from contemporary dance to traditional song and storytelling, from wellness, to brand new theatre pieces, from walking tours to the most riotous take on an Irish WAKE! That you can imagine!
Thank you to our amazing funders the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Fáilte Ireland and Dublin City Council for their consistent support of the Festival.
Thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors for their support of this year's festival. Your contribution played a vital role in making the St. Patrick’s Festival a resounding success! Kia Ireland, Team Ireland, PTSB, Guinness Storehouse, Mr. Tayto, Nomadic, Dublin Airport, Irish Ferries, WiFicandy, European Recycling Platform Ireland, Every Can Counts, Actavo, DoDublin.
Huge thank you to our amazing media partners RTÉ, Mediahuis and FM104 for all of their support, and for embracing the Festival and it's programme so wholeheartedly.
Thank you to all of our wonderful partners who work hand in hand with the Festival, helping us to dream big and to achieve the seemingly impossible. The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Fóras na Gaeilge, GOAL, Ambassade de France en Irlande, the Welsh Government, CoisCéim Dance Theatre, City of Dublin Youth Services, the North East Inner City Iniatiative, and Rye River Brewing Co.
Thank you to the National Museum of Ireland and to the OPW - Office of Public Works for helping us to create such a wonderful, atmospheric and fun-filled space in Festival Quarter at Collins Barracks.
Huge thanks to all of the artists, bands, pageants teams and performers, participants, crew - to everybody on the stage and off, up front and centre and behind the scenes for helping us to bring this Festival to life. Thank you to our wonderful team of Volunteers also, without whom, we’re sure the whole Festival would fall asunder!
Thank you to our amazing Board, and the incredible staff of St. Patrick's Festival - without your support, hard work, commitment, ingenuity, creativity and friendship, we wouldn't be able to achieve the miracles that we do every year.
And finally, thanks to YOU, our wonderful audience, for joining us in a show of joyous celebration, for lighting a Spark after a long winter, for helping us to turn our face to the world, inviting everybody to be Irish for a few days in March.
See you in Dublin for #SPF25 ☘️ ☘️ ☘️

Mexican -Irish 22-year-old Patricio “Pato” O’Ward is one of the youngest drivers in the field, but has some of the most diverse motorsports experience in the entire paddock. From Latin America and French junior open-wheel racing, to IMSA, the Road To Indy and Super Formula in Japan, along with an appearance at Race of Champions, Pato O’Ward is set to become the next global motorsports icon. In 2021, O’Ward went on to finish in 3rd place of the NTT Indycar Series Championship while earning 3 Pole Position and 5 podiums including 2 wins. He once again earned the best ever result for a Mexican driver during the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 with a 4th place finish. He also made his official debut in the Formula One Rookie Test event held in Abu Dhabi on December 14th driving for the McLaren Formula One team.

MEXICO WILL LOVE IRELAND FOREVER... John Patrick Riley (also known as John Patrick O'Riley) (Irish: Seán Pádraig Ó Raghallaigh) (8 February 1817 - 10 October 1850) was an Irish soldier in the British Army who emigrated to the United States and subsequently enlisted in the United States Army. During the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848, Riley led a number of other Irish Catholics in the ranks who defected to Mexico, where they formed the Saint Patrick's Battalion in the Mexican Army. Prior to his desertion, Riley served in Company K of the 5th US Infantry Regiment. Riley and Patrick Dalton deserted in 1846, just before the beginning of the Mexican-American War. Both men subsequently joined the Mexican Army, where they eventually formed the Batallón de San Patricio, or Saint Patrick's Battalion. It was made up of mostly Irish and German immigrants, although it included Catholics from many other countries as well. The unit fought in several battles during the Mexican-American War. Eventually, the battalion was forced to make a last stand at the Battle of Churubusco, which took place on the outskirts of Mexico City. Approximately 35 members of the battalion were killed, while another 85 were captured by US forces, including Riley; the remnants of the unit, numbering approximately 85 men, managed to escape alongside the retreating Mexican forces. Some of the surviving soldiers took part in the Battle for Mexico City, though they were too few to constitute a cohesive military unit. The battalion itself was formally disbanded in August 1848, six months after the end of the war, allegedly due to one of the unit's officers being implicated in an attempted military coup. Because Riley had deserted before the US declared war against Mexico, he was not sentenced to death following his conviction at the court martial held in Mexico City in 1847. He testified to deserting because of discrimination against and mistreatment of Irish Catholics in the US Army, as well as anti-Catholicism which he had encountered in the United States. While he escaped the mass hanging of around 50 other captured members of the Saint Patrick's Battalion, Riley was branded on his cheek with the letter "D" for deserte

Beautiful. I write poetry. I appreciate this poet's God given talent. I also am an American of Irish descent. I spent nine months living on your western shores in county Mayo. It was a bitter sweet time. I love Ireland but she left me sad and homesick. But I miss her and love her still. May God bless Ireland and God bless my America. May God bless all the good people of this world. Times are tough but we are a faithful and resilient people. May God's love rise up and over me, over me, over me...and over you! Write more. It's wonderful!

Both my grandparents imigrated to America from Ireland before my Father was born. They both passed before my Father was 18. What a wise smart peaceful man was my father. I miss him so. Ive never been able to visit but I made sure my father got to go before he passed on. My mother always said there was no better man than an Irishman. She was so right. My father never had an enemy , he made peace everywhere he went. Shook hands with the cops and the mafia and they all loved him. Such a righteous man, I don't think anyone realized how much he prayed for all of us. Thanks for the reminder. Be blessed Ireland! In the name of Jesus Christ amen.
